Caring for your Naturally Dyed Items

Caring for naturally dyed items is not difficult, but attention to a few details will help protect the longevity of color.

Ph Neutral Detergent

Ph Neutral liquid detergent is essential.  We use ECOS, machine wash delicate in cool or lukewarm water or hand wash.  Wash Indigo with other dark colors.

No Vinegar

Many of us use Vinegar as a natural fabric softener.  However, it is an acid that can shift or even strip natural dye color, so avoid use on such items.

No Bleach

Is it necessary to mention this?  Probably not, but just in case, bleach should not be used on any color.

Avoid Sunlight

Prolonged exposure to sunlight is the enemy of all color, and natural dyes are no exception.  Do not dry or store your items in direct sunlight.  Line dry in the shade, indoors, or tumble dry on low heat until 80-90% dry.

Embrace Nature

Natural dyes and fibers are living and ever changing.  Embracing these changes through the life of the item brings us closer to nature and natural living.
